Back-to-School Dental Tips

Sep 19, 2022

While there is a lot to handle when kids are going back to school, it’s important to maintain a healthy dental routine. We have 5 tips to help ensure your little one keeps their teeth strong and clean!

  1. Re- Establish Your Dental Routine

During summer, your routine isn’t always consistent so it can be easy to miss a brushing or two. We recommend re-establishing your dental routine by brushing once in the morning and once before bed. Be sure to floss at least 1 time a day as well! Try to do these things around the same time each day to create a good habit.

  1. Embrace Healthy Eating

When picking up those back-to-school snacks and lunches, be mindful of how much sugar is in the food or drinks. Too much sugar can lead to cavities and tooth decay. We suggest apples, vegetables and dairy products. Need more ideas? Check out this great article that includes 6 Smile Friendly Foods to Include in your Child’s Lunchbox.

  1. Start Going to Bed Early

Your child’s dental health and overall health are linked. Lack of sleep can lead to daytime fatigue, loss of concentration and excess snacking as a stimulus.

  1. Drink lots of Water

Drinking water will keep you hydrated, but it will also help remove any bacteria and plaque from building up.

  1. Plan Dental Appointments in Advance
